South Bend Man Convicted of Methamphetamine Trafficking Charges

A South Bend man has been convicted of methamphetamine trafficking charges. Brandon Edelman, 32, was found guilty of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in connection with a drug trafficking offense, and possession of a firearm after having previously been convicted of a felony.

Edelman, who was arrested after a high-speed chase, told police that he possessed the gun for protection during his drug dealing activities. The chase, which lasted for 13 minutes, reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Edelman’s passenger threw a firearm out of the window during the chase, but it was later recovered by police.

According to evidence presented at trial, Edelman was in possession of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest. He had been convicted of at least one prior felony offense.

The case was investigated by the DEA, with assistance from ATF, South Bend Police, and the Indiana State Police. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joel Gabrielse.

U.S. District Court Judge Robert L. Miller, Jr. presided over the 2-day trial. Sentencing of Edelman has been set for May 15, 2019.

The conviction is a significant blow to those involved in methamphetamine trafficking in the South Bend area. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.
