Defendant Sentenced in Fort Wayne Drug Case

A Fort Wayne resident has been sentenced to 68 months in prison for his role in a drug trafficking crime.

Tyshon Powell, 24, pleaded guilty to possessing with intent to distribute a controlled substance and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

According to court documents, on March 28, 2018, Powell possessed with intent to distribute less than 50 kilograms of marijuana while possessing a firearm in furtherance of his drug trafficking offense.

The case was investigated by the FBI’s Fort Wayne Safe Streets Gang Task Force with the assistance of the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Sheriff’s Department, and the Indiana State Police.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anthony W. Geller and Stacey R. Speith.

Powell was sentenced to 68 months in prison followed by 2 years of supervised release.

U.S. Attorney Kirsch announced the sentencing, which is a result of the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the Fort Wayne area.
