Miranda Brandon, Methamphetamine Distribution, West Virginia 2018
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – In a devastating blow to the city’s fight against illicit substances, two Charleston women, Miranda Brandon and Sherry Gray, were recently sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a methamphetamine distribution ring.
According to United States Attorney Mike Stuart, Brandon, 38, was handed a 138-month prison sentence for aiding and abetting the distribution of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. Gray, 57, received a 109-month prison sentence for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
The court also ordered Brandon to serve at least five years of supervised release upon her release from prison, while Gray will serve a term of at least three years of supervised release.
“An incredible amount of meth and other drugs, and guns – all in a drug house on Charleston’s West Side,” Stuart said, emphasizing the severity of the situation. “Long prison sentences well earned.”
The sentencing comes after Brandon and Gray admitted to delivering drugs and collecting money at the direction of Eugene Calvin Wells in August and September 2018. They also confessed to helping Wells distribute approximately six ounces of methamphetamine to an informant working for the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force during several transactions occurring in Kanawha County.
On September 28, 2018, the DEA executed a search warrant at the residence of Brandon and Gray, finding over 565 grams of heroin, 22 grams of fentanyl, 505 grams of methamphetamine, 600 grams of pentedrone, a synthetic controlled substance, three firearms, and approximately $3,053. The same day, DEA agents searched Wells’ residence in Akron, Ohio, seizing over 400 grams of heroin, seven firearms, and approximately $8,080.
The DEA Task Force conducted the investigation, with United States District Judge David A. Faber presiding over the hearing. Assistant United States Attorney Joshua C. Hanks and former Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Davis handled the prosecution.
