A Hancock County man has been convicted of stealing a firearm in West Virginia.
Brandon S. Moore, 24, of New Cumberland, West Virginia, pled guilty to one count of “Possession of a Stolen Firearm” today in U.S. District Court in Wheeling.
The crime occurred in June 2015, when Moore stole a Glock pistol, model 22, .40 caliber from a residence in Brooke County, West Virginia.
Moore faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy J. Bernard prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the West Virginia State Police, the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department, and the Weirton Police Department investigated.
Senior U.S. District Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr. presided over the case.
Moore’s guilty plea brings an end to the federal investigation into the theft of the firearm.
Moore is set to be sentenced at a later date.
