SALT LAKE CITY, UT – A massive influx of deadly fentanyl has been choked off thanks to a swift federal bust. Francisco Jesus Bravo, 34, of West Valley City, Utah, is facing federal drug charges after agents uncovered a staggering cache of narcotics – including roughly 196,000 fentanyl pills – stashed across multiple locations.
The FBI’s Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force launched the investigation in April 2024, zeroing in on Bravo’s alleged intent to flood Utah with illicit drugs. A raid in May on a West Valley City storage unit yielded approximately 19,802 grams (package weight) of field-tested positive fentanyl, estimated to be around 190,000 pills, alongside a digital scale. This wasn’t an isolated find.
Further searches at Bravo’s residence in West Valley City and another location in Kearns uncovered even more evidence of a large-scale drug operation. Agents seized 2,968.5 grams of methamphetamine, an additional 624.72 grams of fentanyl (roughly 6,000 pills), and 295.77 grams of heroin from Bravo’s home. The Kearns residence yielded another 860.28 grams of heroin. The sheer volume of drugs points to a sophisticated and dangerous trafficking network. Bravo was immediately taken into custody.
Bravo is now formally charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute, and possession of heroin with intent to distribute. He’s set to appear in courtroom 8.4 at the United States District Courthouse in downtown Salt Lake City on June 13, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. to answer to the indictment. The feds are building a case, and the evidence suggests Bravo wasn’t operating alone.
U.S. Attorney Trina A. Higgins of the District of Utah announced the charges, emphasizing the commitment to dismantling drug trafficking operations. The investigation is being spearheaded by the FBI Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force, with Assistant United States Attorney Seth Nielsen handling the prosecution. This bust is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and bolstering community safety.
The case also falls under the umbrella of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), a multi-agency effort designed to dismantle the highest-level criminal organizations.
