GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a shocking turn of events, Brazilian national Luis Peterson Rohr Ferreira Borges, 24, has been charged with assaulting federal officers during his arrest in Connecticut. The defendant’s violent behavior has left law enforcement officials reeling.
Ferreira Borges is accused of resisting arrest and attacking federal officers, including kicking, flailing, and spitting obscenities at them while being transported to the federal building. His actions have been described as a brazen display of disrespect for the law and authority.
The charges stem from a series of encounters with law enforcement. On September 16, 2023, Ferreira Borges was charged with assault of public safety personnel and other offenses in Connecticut Superior Court. He then became the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for being present in the United States in violation of immigration laws.
On January 28, 2025, Ferreira Borges attempted to flee from officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), leading to a high-speed chase that ended when he nearly struck a bystander. He was apprehended again on June 7, 2025, after leading police on another foot chase.
Finally, on June 25, 2025, Ferreira Borges was captured in Hartford. His behavior during this encounter was so violent that he faced charges of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees, carrying a maximum sentence of eight years. He is also charged with influencing, impeding, or retaliating against a federal official, which carries a maximum term of imprisonment of six years.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Neeraj N. Patel is handling the prosecution of this case, which is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to combat illegal immigration and violent crime. Ferreira Borges remains in custody, facing serious charges that could land him behind bars for years.
