Brett Garcia, a 33-year-old Chicopee man, has been charged with heroin distribution in Massachusetts.
According to federal authorities, Garcia was arraigned in court and detained pending a hearing scheduled for Friday, May 15, 2020.
The indictment alleges that Garcia possessed with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin on February 28, 2020, in Hampden County.
The charges were brought as a result of an investigation into heroin trafficking in Chicopee.
The indictment was unsealed today, and Garcia is facing a sentence of at least five years and up to 40 years in prison, as well as a fine of $2 million.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Chicopee Police Department.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd E. Newhouse of the U.S. Attorney’s Springfield Branch Office.
The details contained in the indictment are allegations, and Garcia is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
