Brett Luaces, Methamphetamine Distribution, Louisiana 2023

SHREVEPORT, La. — In a major blow to the city’s methamphetamine trade, a Shreveport man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for distributing the highly addictive substance.

Brett Luaces, 43, of Shreveport, was handed the sentence by U.S. District Judge Donald E. Walter on one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Luaces was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term.

According to court documents, law enforcement agents were searching for Luaces on a state arrest warrant for distribution of methamphetamine on August 30, 2016, when they found him at a house in Shreveport.

Following his arrest, agents searched the house and uncovered 135.3 grams of methamphetamine that tested as 96 percent pure.

In a shocking revelation, Luaces revealed to agents that he had been purchasing 18 ounces of methamphetamine per week in Dallas and bringing it back to Shreveport to sell on the street for approximately the last year.

The investigation was a joint effort between the DEA, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Shreveport Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike O’Mara prosecuted the case.

The harsh sentence sends a clear message that the city will not tolerate the distribution of methamphetamine and other illicit substances.
