Brett Schultz, 37, of Buffalo, New York, has been arrested and charged with enticement of a minor, attempted enticement of a minor, and transferring obscene matter to a minor, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Western New York.

The charges carry a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years in prison and a maximum of life. Schultz was arrested on March 12, 2017, after he sent explicit messages and images to an undercover law enforcement officer posing as a 14 or 15-year-old high school girl online.

According to the complaint, on March 10, 2017, Schultz sent a message to what he believed was a 14 or 15-year-old high school girl online. He asked her if she liked older men and if she would be a good girl to him. The undercover officer responded, and Schultz sent her a naked picture of himself in a text message.

Over the course of the next two days, Schultz sent the undercover officer multiple naked images of himself and asked her to send him sexual pictures in return. He also made plans to meet her at a local coffee shop, but was instead arrested by special agents with Homeland Security Investigations.

Schultz was ordered detained following a detention hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder.

The investigation was led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Kevin Kelly.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
