Paal Klykken, 35, Sentenced to 78 Months in Prison for Child Pornography
A Manhattan man has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for distributing and receiving child pornography, according to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Paal Klykken, 35, was sentenced to 78 months in prison and seven years of supervised release for his crimes.
Klykken pleaded guilty on September 1, 2016, before U.S. District Judge Valerie E. Caproni, who also imposed today’s sentence. U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara stated, “Paal Klykken admitted to serially taking advantage of and victimizing his minor neighbor. Today, he has been sentenced to prison for his predatory criminal behavior.”
According to documents filed in the case and statements made in related court proceedings, Klykken communicated with a minor girl who lived in a neighboring apartment via email and a social messaging app from at least early 2015 up to and including January 2016. During this time, Klykken repeatedly enticed the minor to pose in sexual positions and engage in sexually explicit conduct while he watched from his home, often with the aid of a camera.
Klykken was arrested in Manhattan on March 18, 2016, and after his arrest, he admitted to live-streaming and downloading child pornography for approximately 18 years. Mr. Bharara praised the efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and expressed deep appreciation for the contribution of the New York City Police Department Vice Major Case Squad to this investigation.
The prosecution is being handled by the Office’s General Crimes Unit. Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan Rebold is in charge of the prosecution. Klykken’s sentence is a harsh reminder of the severe consequences of child pornography and the importance of protecting our children from such predators.
As a society, we must remain vigilant in the pursuit of justice for victims of child exploitation and continue to work towards creating a safer and more secure environment for our children.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New York City Police Department Vice Major Case Squad are to be commended for their tireless efforts in bringing this case to a successful conclusion.
