Brian Bravo, Bribery Conspiracy, Florida 2021

MIAMI, FLORIDA – A brazen tale of corruption has unfolded in the Sunshine State, as a former high-ranking official at a prominent healthcare provider has admitted to taking kickbacks from vendors in exchange for lucrative government contracts.

Brian Bravo, 46, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, formerly worked as the Corporate Procurement Officer and Director of Materials Management of North Broward Hospital District, also known as Broward Health.

Between 2005 and 2015, Bravo held significant sway over the procurement process, deciding which vendors would provide goods and services to Broward Health. This included health care products, linens, compression sleeves, and printer repairs.

Bravo’s guilty plea, accepted on [undisclosed date], reveals that he accepted approximately $427,000 in kickback payments – $150,000 of it in cash – from two vendors and a consultant for two additional vendors in exchange for awarding them Broward Health contracts.

As part of his scheme, Bravo went to great lengths to conceal his illicit activities, steering kickback payments to designated bank accounts in 2015. His actions not only betrayed the public trust but also put patients and taxpayers at risk.

Bravo’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 12, 2021, before U.S. District Judge Raag Singhal. He faces up to five years in prison for his crimes.

The guilty plea was announced by Juan Antonio Gonzalez, Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and George L. Piro, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Miami Field Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey N. Kaplan is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the FBI Miami field office.
