Brian E. Hunter, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Kentucky 2025
A 33-year-old man from Cincinnati, Ohio, has been sentenced to 48 months in prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Brian E. Hunter was handed down the sentence by Chief U.S. District Judge David Bunning on Friday.
According to court records, Hunter was pulled over by law enforcement on May 26, 2025, for traffic violations. During the search of his vehicle, officers discovered remnants of marijuana and a stolen, loaded pistol on the driver’s side floorboard. Hunter also had a large amount of cash in his pocket that was not seized.
Hunter was aware at the time of the traffic stop that he had prior felony convictions and was prohibited from possessing a firearm. He was previously convicted in 2013 of Having Weapons Under Disability for illegally possessing a firearm after his alleged involvement in a shootout at the A to Z market in Cincinnati, and in 2014 for Felonious Assault and Trafficking in Cocaine.
Under federal law, Hunter must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence. Upon his release from prison, he will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for three years.
The investigation was conducted by ATF and Boone County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joel King is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.
Paul McCaffrey, First Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; John Nokes, Special Agent in Charge, ATF Louisville Field Division; and Sheriff Les Hill, Boone County Sheriff’s Office, jointly announced the sentence.
This case serves as a reminder that possessing a firearm as a convicted felon is a serious offense with severe consequences. We urge the public to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
