Corrupt Corrections Officer Lands 12-Month Prison Sentence
Jackson, Miss. – Former federal corrections officer Brian Jenkins, 39, has been sentenced to serve 12 months and one day in federal prison for bribery.
According to court documents, from August 2017 to June 2018, Jenkins accepted payment in exchange for smuggling contraband into the Federal Prison in Yazoo County, Mississippi, where he was employed as a corrections officer.
Jenkins admitted receiving payments of just over four thousand dollars from inmates and others for delivering the contraband to inmates inside the facility.
Jenkins was charged by criminal information and pled guilty to accepting bribe payments in exchange for bringing contraband items into the Yazoo City Federal Corrections Complex.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Office of Inspector General, while Deputy Criminal Chief Dave Fulcher handled the prosecution.
Jenkins’ sentence stems from his involvement in the corrupt practices that eroded trust within the corrections system. His actions not only compromised the safety of fellow inmates but also undermined the integrity of the federal prison.
U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee of the Southern District of Mississippi and Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Investigations Sandra Barnes made the announcement.
The defendant’s prison sentence serves as a reminder that those in positions of authority will be held accountable for their actions.
