Brian Keith Tackett, Online Child Exploitation, Kentucky 2023

LOUISVILLE, KY. – In a shocking case of online child exploitation, a 37-year-old man from Banner, Kentucky, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Brian Keith Tackett, of Floyd County, pleaded guilty and was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge Greg N. Stivers for online enticement of a minor and attempted online enticement of a minor, announced Acting United States Attorney Michael A. Bennett.

The case dates back to September 2015, when law enforcement officials received information from a concerned family member after discovering that an 11-year-old female had been communicating with an adult male, later identified as Tackett, through social media. The communications between Tackett and the minor involved sexual content, Tackett’s request to meet in person for sex, and the exchange of partially nude images.

Tackett was subsequently arrested on September 25, 2015, and transported to the Glasgow Police Department, where he admitted to sending sexually explicit text messages to an individual he thought was a 13-year-old girl. He also admitted to receiving nude photos from both juveniles and adults and sending pornographic images of adult males to adults and juveniles.

Tackett had previously been convicted of similar conduct in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, having pleaded guilty in 2018.

Assistant United States Attorney Jo E. Lawless prosecuted the case, with the Glasgow Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation conducting the investigation with assistance from the Kentucky State Police.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Tackett’s sentence includes 15 years in prison followed by a life term of Supervised Release, with no parole in the federal system.
