BRIAN PAGE, a 45-year-old Guilford man, has been handed an additional three months of imprisonment for failing to turn himself in to serve his sentence for his role in a scheme to distribute oxycodone.
Page was originally sentenced to 97 months of imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release, by U.S. District Judge Alvin W. Thompson in Hartford. He was released on a $200,000 bond and ordered to surrender for service of his sentence on November 17, 2017.
However, Page did not show up at the Federal Correctional Institute at Fort Dix, New Jersey, as instructed. The U.S. Marshals Service tracked him down and arrested him at a hotel in Branford on December 7, 2017. He has been in custody ever since.
Judge Thompson has now ordered Page to serve an additional three months of imprisonment, followed by six months of home confinement, when he completes his original 97-month sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jocelyn Courtney Kaoutzanis and Anthony E. Kaplan.
Page’s failure to report to prison has led to a significant extension of his sentence, highlighting the consequences of not taking responsibility for one’s actions.
The court has made it clear that individuals who fail to comply with their sentences will face severe penalties. This case serves as a warning to those who think they can evade the law.
