Brian Ray, Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material, Indiana 2023

FORT WAYNE – In a disturbing case of child exploitation, 46-year-old Brian Ray of Angola, Indiana, has been sentenced to 194 months in prison for distributing images of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Ray pleaded guilty to the charges, and United States District Court Chief Judge Holly A. Brady handed down the sentence. United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson announced the sentencing.

According to court documents, between March and April 2023, Ray distributed images of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, sparking a thorough investigation by the Department of Homeland Security, with assistance from the Indiana State Police, the Steuben County Indiana Sheriff’s Office, the Angola, Indiana Police Department, and the Ashley, Indiana Police Department.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lesley J. Miller Lowery, who worked tirelessly to bring Ray to justice.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims.

Ray will serve 194 months in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release. The sentence serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child exploitation crimes and the consequences for those who commit them.
