Bridgeport Fentanyl Kingpin Gets 20 Months for Fatal Overdose

A notorious fentanyl dealer from Bridgeport, Connecticut, has been sentenced to 20 months in federal prison for distributing the deadly substance that led to a fatal overdose in the Bronx, New York.

Daniel Oliver, 30, also known as "Chase," was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Omar A. Williams in Hartford to 20 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for distributing fentanyl.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Oliver sold fentanyl to a 23-year-old woman in the early morning hours of April 23, 2020. The woman was found unconscious in her bedroom and died shortly after from acute fentanyl intoxication. Fentanyl and drug paraphernalia were recovered from the scene, and the investigation revealed that Oliver knew the victim had not used opioids for some time before the sale, yet still warned her that the drugs could be more dangerous based on her period of sobriety.

Oliver was arrested on a federal criminal complaint on September 1, 2022, and pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, a controlled substance on December 4, 2023. After a hearing on April 19, 2024, Judge Williams found that Oliver sold the fentanyl to the overdose victim that resulted in her death.

The investigation into Oliver’s fentanyl empire was a collaborative effort between the New York City Police Department, the Bridgeport Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert S. Ruff prosecuted the case, which has significant implications for the ongoing struggle against the fentanyl epidemic sweeping the nation.
