BRIDGEPORT, CT – Glen Porter, also known as “Kuran,” 32, of Bridgeport, will spend the next 57 months in federal prison after being sentenced by U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in New Haven. Porter was convicted for his role in a Bridgeport heroin distribution network, a case brought by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.
The bust began in 2015 when the FBI’s Bridgeport State Streets Task Force, along with the Bridgeport Police Department and Connecticut State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force, started investigating heroin distributors operating within the city. The investigation quickly honed in on Kareem Roseboro, also known as “Swiss,” who was identified as a primary supplier. Porter, investigators discovered, was one of Roseboro’s customers, taking distribution quantities of heroin to sell to his own network of users.
Court documents reveal that the operation wasn’t confined to street corners. Roseboro and his associates utilized Stylz Barbershop, located on State Street in Bridgeport, as a central hub for their narcotics activity. The investigation wasn’t limited to surveillance; authorities deployed court-authorized wiretaps, made controlled heroin purchases, and conducted extensive physical surveillance. These efforts yielded multiple “bricks” of heroin – each containing 100 individual dose bags – along with paraphernalia used for processing and packaging, and five firearms.
A grand jury in Bridgeport returned an eight-count indictment on June 6, 2016, charging Porter, Roseboro, and five other Bridgeport residents with heroin trafficking offenses. The seven defendants were taken into custody the following day. Porter has remained detained since his arrest. On November 16, 2016, Porter pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin.
This isn’t Porter’s first brush with the law. Records indicate a lengthy criminal history, including multiple prior felony convictions. Roseboro has also entered a guilty plea and is currently awaiting sentencing. The U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly stated the outcome reflects the commitment to dismantling drug networks in Connecticut.
The investigation involved a multi-agency effort including the FBI’s Bridgeport Safe Streets Task Force, Bridgeport Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, Connecticut State Police, Stratford Police Department, Stamford Police Department, and the Trumbull Police Department K-9 Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alina P. Reynolds and H. Gordon Hall are prosecuting the case. The Grimy Times will continue to follow the sentencing of Roseboro and the remaining defendants.
