Bienvenido Gonzalez, Heroin Trafficking, Connecticut 2017

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — In a shocking blow to the streets of New Haven, federal authorities have announced that 23 individuals have been charged following an extensive DEA investigation into a family-run heroin trafficking operation.

The ring, led by brothers Bienvenido Gonzalez and Antonio Gonzalez, was accused of distributing massive quantities of heroin in New Haven and beyond. According to court documents, the organization sourced bulk supplies from the Bronx and distributed them through a network that included three of their younger siblings.

‘We allege that this drug trafficking organization was responsible for distributing a tremendous amount of heroin on the streets of New Haven,’ said U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly. ‘As our state grapples with the opioid epidemic, we will continue to target those who traffic these deadly drugs.’

DEA Special Agent in Charge Michael J. Ferguson echoed the sentiment, stating that those responsible for distributing lethal drugs must be held accountable. ‘In response to the ongoing opioid epidemic, DEA and its partners are committed to bringing justice to those who distribute this poison,’ he said.

The investigation included court-authorized wiretaps, controlled purchases of narcotics, and physical surveillance. On March 15 and 16, 2017, authorities arrested several key figures in New Haven and Puerto Rico. Searches yielded large quantities of heroin, crack cocaine, and substantial sums of cash.

Among those charged are Bienvenido Gonzalez (44), Antonio Gonzalez (46), Luis Gonzalez (40), and Herson Gonzalez (37). The operation spanned multiple states, highlighting the reach and influence of this drug trafficking enterprise.

As the community grapples with the impact of the opioid crisis, today’s announcement serves as a stark reminder that law enforcement is committed to dismantling these dangerous networks.
