Hartford Man Sentenced to 8+ Years for Cocaine, Crack Ring
A Hartford man has been sentenced to more than 8 years in prison for his role in a cocaine and crack distribution ring, authorities announced Wednesday.
Gerard Brown, also known as “Goldie,” 38, of Hartford, was sentenced to 100 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, for his role in the cocaine and crack distribution ring, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
According to court documents, the investigation revealed that David Gil-Grande, of Manchester, received shipments of cocaine from Puerto Rico, which he then supplied to Brown and other defendants, including Brown’s brother, Anthony “Pretty” Shelton, and Trevon “B.J.” Terry.
The group then converted much of the cocaine into crack and distributed both forms of the drug in the area of Barbour Street in Hartford, authorities said.
Brown has been detained since his arrest on January 21, 2016, when a search of his Kensington Street residence revealed items used to process and package narcotics for street sale, and a search of his person revealed $2,693 in cash.
Brown pleaded guilty on April 10, 2017, to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.
Brown has forfeited the cash that was seized from him at the time of his arrest, and his criminal history includes state firearm and drug convictions, and a robbery conviction for which he was sentenced to 18 years of incarceration, suspended after seven years.
Other defendants involved in the case have also received significant prison sentences, including Gil-Grande, who was sentenced to 70 months, Terry, who was sentenced to 57 months, and Shelton, who was sentenced to 110 months.
