Hartford, CT – The grim saga of drug trafficking in the Connecticut capital city reached a conclusion as Brandon Gineyard, 38, was sentenced today to 46 months in federal prison for his role in a massive cocaine ring.
United States Attorney John H. Durham announced that Gineyard faced U.S. District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant’s stern sentence, which will be followed by three years of supervised release. The sentencing hearing took place virtually, thanks to the provisions of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).
Court documents reveal that Gineyard was part of an operation that brought cocaine shipments from Puerto Rico and California to Hartford. A shocking twist in the case involved a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier who facilitated the shipment of parcels containing kilograms of cocaine by using his delivery route.
According to authorities, Gineyard purchased ounce-quantities from another member of the organization and sold smaller quantities to his customers. He was arrested on May 22, 2019, and indicted on June 4, 2019, along with 18 co-defendants, for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and related offenses.
Gineyard pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute cocaine on November 26, 2019. The Drug Enforcement Administration’s Hartford Task Force and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service conducted the investigation that led to his conviction.
The task force includes personnel from multiple police departments in Connecticut, including the DEA Hartford Resident Office and local law enforcement agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey M. Stone is prosecuting this case with a heavy hand.
