Tyiese Warren, Carjacking Armed Robbery, Connecticut 2020

BRIDGEPORT, CT – Tyiese Warren, 20, also known on the streets as “Loose Screw,” is facing serious federal charges after a brazen crime spree in March 2020 that left a victim dragged by a vehicle and a Stratford Citgo robbed at gunpoint. Warren was indicted by a federal grand jury in New Haven and pleaded not guilty during a recent video conference, remaining detained pending a September 15 detention hearing.

The feds, led by U.S. Attorney John H. Durham, alongside FBI Special Agent in Charge David Sundberg and Stratford Police Chief Joseph McNeil, are cracking down on escalating violence in Bridgeport. This case is part of a larger investigation targeting members of groups like the Original North End (“ONE”), a known presence in the Trumbull Gardens area. The investigation involves a multi-agency task force including the FBI, ATF, DEA, U.S. Marshals, Bridgeport Police and other local departments.

According to court documents, the chaos began on March 25, 2020, when Warren and an accomplice allegedly stole a car from in front of the Citgo 6M Service Station and Quik Mart on Barnum Avenue in Stratford. The driver, attempting to stop the theft, was dragged several hundred yards before being forced to let go. The pair didn’t stop there. They then allegedly carjacked a Toyota Corolla in Bridgeport, brandishing a firearm at the owner before speeding off. Minutes later, they stormed into a Stratford Citgo, holding employees at gunpoint and making off with cash and a cellphone.

The crime spree ended that same night when Warren crashed a stolen vehicle on an I-95 on-ramp and attempted to flee from Stratford Police. He didn’t get far. Now, Warren faces a hefty legal battle. The indictment charges him with one count of interference with commerce by robbery (a potential 20-year sentence), one count of brandishing, carrying and using a firearm during a crime of violence (a mandatory minimum of seven years consecutive to any other sentence), and one count of carjacking (up to 15 years).

Durham was quick to note that an indictment is merely an allegation of wrongdoing and that Warren is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Karen L. Peck, Rahul Kale, Peter D. Markle, and Jocelyn C. Kaoutzanis are prosecuting the case. This prosecution is tied to both the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) and Project Longevity, initiatives aimed at reducing violent crime through community engagement and targeted law enforcement.

Project Longevity, specifically, focuses on directly engaging with groups prone to violence, delivering a clear message against further criminal activity, outlining the consequences, and offering resources to those who wish to change course. Whether this approach will quell the violence in Bridgeport remains to be seen, but the feds are sending a clear message: street justice won’t be tolerated. The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are possible.
