Marbin Jimenez, Fentanyl Possession, Connecticut 2020

Waterbury’s MARBIN JIMENEZ, also known as ‘Rabia,’ has been hit with serious federal charges for his alleged role in a ruthless drug ring. The 32-year-old was nabbed on August 31, 2020, charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin and fentanyl, as well as conspiracy.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed that the DEA New Haven Task Force and Waterbury Police Department had been tracking Jimenez and his organization, which was tied to a wider drug network led by Nestor Sosa-Ortiz. The investigation uncovered that the ring imported large quantities of fentanyl from suppliers in Connecticut and New York before distributing it across New Haven County.

Jimenez’s arrest follows the May 2019 apprehension of Sosa-Ortiz, who was charged with federal heroin and fentanyl trafficking charges in New York City. Despite being behind bars, authorities say Sosa-Ortiz continued to orchestrate his drug enterprise using smuggled cell phones from prison.

Jimenez was identified as a redistributor for the Sosa organization after a November 2019 indictment that named 15 members of the group for conspiring to distribute heroin and fentanyl. He himself faced three controlled purchases by investigators in July and August 2020.

Jimenez’s detention hearing is set for tomorrow at 11 a.m., where he’ll face U.S. Magistrate Judge Sarah A.L. Merriam. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Tara E. Levens, Lauren C. Clark, and Jocelyn Courtney Kaoutzanis are prosecuting the case.

While Jimenez awaits his fate, Sosa-Ortiz’s sisters, Isamelis and Imirici Sosa-Ortiz, have already pleaded guilty to related charges. The DEA New Haven Task Force, which includes multiple local law enforcement agencies, is leading this probe into the drug network that has terrorized the community.
