Waterbury, CT – A gritty chapter in the city’s crime saga unfolded as William Moore, a 39-year-old local, was slapped with severe drug and firearm offenses. United States Attorney John H. Durham announced that a Hartford grand jury indicted Moore for drug trafficking and firearms violations.
The April 10, 2019, indictment accused Moore of possessing heroin and crack cocaine on February 25, 2019, along with a Glock Model 23 semi-automatic handgun. His criminal history includes New York felony convictions for assault in the first degree and second degree.
Moore faced U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert M. Spector in New Haven today, entering a not guilty plea to charges that carry potential sentences ranging from 20 years to life. The investigation into Moore’s alleged crimes is being led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Waterbury Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Michael J. Gustafson is prosecuting this case under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and enhancing community safety. It’s another stark reminder that the relentless pursuit of justice continues in Connecticut.
Durham emphasized that an indictment does not equate to guilt, as defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
