Roberto Vasquez, Rape at Gunpoint, Connecticut 2024

Bridgeport man Roberto Vasquez, 53, was handed a 72-month sentence today by Chief U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall for the monstrous crime of raping an 18-year-old woman at gunpoint, utilizing a stolen firearm and silencer.

According to court documents, VASQUEZ first lured the victim into his apartment under false pretenses. Once there, he barricaded the door and subjected her to a chilling act of terror: holding a gun and silencer to her head during the attack.

The incident came to light when the victim reported the abuse to a probation officer, revealing the presence of a stolen .22 caliber semiautomatic pistol in VASQUEZ’s apartment. A subsequent search unearthed the stolen silencer, leading to his arrest on March 17, 2014.

Forensic analysis of VASQUEZ’s cellphone provided chilling evidence: recordings of the rape and other proof of his abuse against the victim. The defendant had pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen firearm and silencer, as well as unlawful restraint in state court.

Since his arrest, VASQUEZ has remained detained. His guilty plea came on May 3, 2016, marking the culmination of a case investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Bridgeport Police Department, and Connecticut Office of Adult Probation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rahul Kale prosecuted the case.

United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, Deirdre M. Daly, emphasized the severity of VASQUEZ’s actions and the justice served by today’s sentence. ‘The use of a stolen firearm and silencer in this heinous act underscores the dangers posed by unregistered weapons on our streets,’ said Daly.
