Bridgeport, CT – Jason Cox, a 50-year-old former resident of Bridgeport and Savannah, Georgia, was sentenced to 125 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, for his role in a massive heroin and fentanyl trafficking operation in Connecticut.
According to court documents, Cox was part of a larger conspiracy that distributed kilogram quantities of heroin and fentanyl in the Bridgeport area. The investigation, led by the DEA’s Bridgeport High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, revealed that Cox worked with his suppliers in Mexico to obtain large quantities of narcotics.
In December 2019, a cooperating source purchased 1.1 kilograms of fentanyl, cut with Xylazine and Tramadol, from Cox’s suppliers in California for $27,000. The following month, four individuals were arrested after attempting to purchase five kilograms of heroin from the same suppliers. Investigators seized 4.9 kilograms of heroin and an additional five kilograms were found in a storage locker in San Diego.
Cox was arrested on February 11, 2020, and has been detained ever since. On October 14, 2022, a jury found Cox guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute kilogram quantities of heroin and fentanyl.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Karen L. Peck, Lauren C. Clark, and Katherine E. Boyles through the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Program. The program is a federal task force that targets transnational and domestic drug trafficking organizations.
Cox’s sentencing brings an end to a long and complex investigation that involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the DEA, Connecticut State Police, and local police departments. The case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of heroin and fentanyl trafficking on communities across the country.
