In a shocking move, British authorities raided the headquarters of the Soviet trade delegation in London, sparking a bitter diplomatic row between the two nations. The raid, authorized by Home Secretary Sir William Joynson-Hicks, targeted Arcos Ltd, a company linked to the Soviet trade delegation, on the premises of which police found evidence of propaganda and espionage activities. The raid was carried out by Scotland Yard’s special branch, led by British Secret Service chief Sir Wyndham Childs, in the early hours of yesterday morning.
