TALLAHASSEE, FL – Juan Hurtado-Solano, 43, and his brother Candido Hurtado-Solano, 39, are facing federal prison time after admitting to repeatedly violating U.S. immigration laws. Both men pleaded guilty this week to the charge of illegal reentry by a removed alien, a crime federal prosecutors are treating with zero tolerance.
The case, announced by U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin, is a direct reflection of the Trump and Bondi administration’s hardline stance on immigration enforcement. “These charges should be a warning to all illegal aliens that violations of our nation’s immigration laws will not be taken lightly by my office,” Heekin stated, doubling down on the commitment to aggressive prosecution.
Court records reveal a pattern of disregard for U.S. immigration laws. The Hurtado-Solano brothers were initially flagged in May 2012 when Candido was arrested for driving under the influence. Immigration officials determined both were in the country illegally and deported them to Mexico in August 2012. They didn’t stay away. Just a month later, in September 2012, both were again removed from the U.S. after illegally re-entering. Their latest encounter came on May 29, 2025, during a search warrant execution at a Tallahassee construction site.
The brothers now face up to two years in federal prison. Following their incarceration, they will be deported from the United States once again, a consequence prosecutors hope will finally deter further attempts to circumvent immigration laws. This isn’t just about border control; it’s about sending a message, according to sources within the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The investigation was a joint effort between Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Assistant U.S. Attorneys Justin Keen and James A. McCain are prosecuting the case. Candido Hurtado-Solano’s sentencing is scheduled for July 11, 2025, before Judge Mark E. Walker. Juan Hurtado-Solano’s sentencing date is pending but will be held before Chief Judge Allen C. Winsor.
This prosecution is part of “Operation Take Back America,” a nationwide initiative aimed at bolstering immigration enforcement, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime. The operation leverages resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
