PITTSBURGH – In a shocking case of deception, a 28-year-old woman from Lansing, Michigan, was sentenced to six months in prison for her role in a brazen wire fraud scheme that targeted Pandemic Unemployment Assistance benefits in Pennsylvania.

Brittany White, a resident of Lansing, Michigan, was handed down the sentence by Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan on April 30, 2024 in federal court.

According to the information presented to the Court, White traveled to Pittsburgh in July 2020 with the intention of retrieving debit cards issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. However, these debit cards were part of a larger scheme to defraud the system, with the funds being directed to an address in Etna with no connection to White.

As a result of her actions, White was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $14,835.

Assistant United States Attorney Jeffrey R. Bengel led the prosecution of White, working closely with the United States Department of Labor – Office of the Inspector General, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the United States Department of Homeland Security Investigations.
