Broc Todd Waltermeyer, a 44-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska, is headed to federal prison for nearly 16 years after admitting his role in a high-volume methamphetamine trafficking ring that flooded Pottawattamie County with over two kilograms of the potent drug. On January 18, 2017, Senior U.S. District Judge James E. Gritzner handed down a 196-month sentence, followed by five years of supervised release.
Waltermeyer pleaded guilty on April 29, 2016, to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, closing the book on a swift but aggressive investigation led by multiple law enforcement agencies. The operation, which ran from July 2015 to November 11, 2015, saw Waltermeyer and associates move large quantities of meth from Omaha, Nebraska, directly into southwest Iowa, where the drug was sold on the streets.
Federal prosecutors, led by United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel, painted a clear picture of Waltermeyer as a key link in the supply chain. The 196-month sentence reflects the severity of the offense and the quantity of drugs involved—methamphetamine distribution charges at this level carry stiff mandatory minimums under federal law.
The takedown was the result of a joint investigation by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Task Force, the Omaha Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Wiretaps, surveillance, and informant testimony helped dismantle the network and tie Waltermeyer directly to the distribution chain.
Waltermeyer’s guilty plea spared the government a trial, but did nothing to reduce the consequences. With no prior federal record but facing overwhelming evidence, he accepted responsibility—knowing full well the federal system punishes drug traffickers with little leniency, especially when multi-kilo quantities are involved.
The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. For more information, contact Rachel Scherle at 515-473-9300 or Rachel.Scherle@usdoj.gov.
