Charles Dwane Brown, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Oklahoma 2016

Charles Dwane Brown, 43, of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, is headed to federal prison for a decade after being sentenced to 120 months for illegally possessing a firearm — a crime reserved for those with violent pasts who refuse to stay clear of guns.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma confirmed Brown was sentenced on the charge of FELON IN POSSESSION OF FIREARM, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2). He will serve 3 years under supervised release following his prison term, with no chance for parole.

The indictment traces the crime to May 6, 2016, when Brown, already a convicted felon with a record carrying a sentence of more than one year, knowingly possessed a firearm that had moved in interstate commerce — a key trigger for federal prosecution. That single act landed him squarely in federal crosshairs.

The case emerged from a joint investigation by the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation — a trifecta of law enforcement agencies that don’t back down from gun crimes in rural hotspots.

The sentencing was handed down by the Honorable Ronald A. White, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee. Brown remained in custody immediately following the hearing, awaiting transfer to a federal prison facility where he’ll serve his full, nonparoleable sentence.

Assistant United States Attorney Dean Burris prosecuted the case for the federal government, underscoring the DOJ’s relentless push to lock up felons caught toting firearms — especially in jurisdictions where gun violence and recidivism remain persistent threats.
