GRIMY NEWS: In a chilling sweep, 13 members of the Bronx-based Davidson Avenue drug trafficking organization (DTO), a violent arm of the Crips gang, have been charged in Manhattan federal court with narcotics trafficking and firearms offenses. Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Joon H. Kim, along with FBI Assistant Director William F. Sweeney Jr. and NYPD Commissioner James P. O’Neill, announced today the unsealing of an Indictment that paints a picture of a gang using gun violence to control drug territories in the North Bronx.
The Davidson Avenue DTO has been accused of selling heroin, crack cocaine, and cocaine from 2012 to May 2017 on the streets of the Bronx. Members of the DTO are also alleged to have possessed firearms, used them in territory battles with rival Bloods gang members, and internally within their own ranks.
“These defendants, many of them Crips street gang members, flooded our streets with drugs and terrorized our neighborhoods with gun violence,” said Kim. “Our commitment to make our city safer from drug-related violence remains unwavering.”
Sweeney Jr. echoed the sentiment: “The FBI is dedicated to protecting communities from violent gangs like the Crips, who use threats and violence to maintain control. Our agents will be relentless in their pursuit of these criminals.”
O’Neill emphasized the NYPD’s role in dismantling criminal networks. “Today’s arrests are a testament to our dedication to combating drug trafficking and violent gun crimes,” he said. “The seizure of this evidence-laden crew is a significant blow to the Bronx criminal landscape, made possible by our partners at the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s office.”
The Indictment charges OVED VEGA, FRANKIE REYES, HENRY MEJIA, FELIX CASTILLO, JUSTIN RODRIGUEZ, JESSICA GLENN, GABRIEL CRUZ, ISIAH PEREZ, NOEL PEREZ, ALFREDO RODRIGUEZ, MARKEEN JORDAN, STEFAN CROMARTIE, and DAYQUAN SALAMAN with participating in a conspiracy to distribute narcotics and possessing and discharging firearms in furtherance of their drug business.
