BRONX, NY – JERMAINE GREENE, a former murder convict and serial criminal, faces life in prison after being caught with a loaded ghost gun, cocaine, and drug paraphernalia on a New York City subway platform. Greene was arrested without incident during a routine fare check at the Fordham Road Station.
The 42-year-old Bronx native’s arrest is a testament to the NYPD’s zero-tolerance stance against public safety threats. Officers discovered the loaded 9mm “ghost” gun, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, alongside 50 grams of cocaine, a scale for drug transactions, and several empty plastic bags, all recovered during a thorough search.
GREENE’s previous convictions include second-degree murder, making him ineligible to possess ammunition under federal law. He now faces charges of possessing ammunition after a felony conviction, distribution of narcotics, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, each carrying significant prison sentences.
“Jermaine Greene is no stranger to the justice system,” said U.S. Attorney Damian Williams. “Today’s arrest is a clear message that those who bring firearms and drugs into our public transit system will be held accountable.”
NYPD Commissioner Edward A. Caban echoed Williams’ sentiments: “This case underscores the importance of focusing on all forms of crime, from fare evasion to drug trafficking. The NYPD is committed to keeping New Yorkers safe and ensuring that those who would exploit our public transportation for illegal activities face the consequences of their actions.”
The investigation was conducted by the Office’s General Crimes Unit, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Henry Ross leading the prosecution. Greene is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
