BROOKLYN, NY – A daylight gunfight in the heart of Flatbush has landed two convicted felons in federal custody, authorities announced today. Edynesson Bauduy, 22, and Aaron Richard, 35, both of Brooklyn, are facing federal firearms violations stemming from the August 12, 2025, shooting near 533 Ocean Avenue.
According to a criminal complaint filed at the federal courthouse, NYPD officers responding to reports of gunfire arrived to find Bauduy and Richard actively engaged in a shootout. Police recovered a firearm linked to Bauduy, along with shell casings traced back to Richard’s weapon. The brazen exchange occurred in broad daylight, endangering countless bystanders.
“As alleged, these defendants are convicted felons who engaged in a dangerous gunfight on a busy Brooklyn street in broad daylight, endangering the lives of numerous citizens,” said United States Attorney Joseph Nocella, Jr. Nocella emphasized that both men had been recently released from prison – Richard in April and Bauduy in June – highlighting a revolving door of violence despite repeated interactions with the criminal justice system.
FBI Assistant Director in Charge Christopher G. Raia stated, “Edynesson Bauduy and Aaron Richard allegedly engaged in a public gunfight despite their previous criminal convictions barring them from possessing firearms…These successful Operation Summer Heat arrests emphasizes the FBI’s steadfast commitment to collaborating with our law enforcement partners to crush all violent crime.” The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort to reduce violent crime.
Richard made his initial appearance before United States Magistrate Judge Seth D. Eichenholtz this afternoon and was ordered detained pending trial. Bauduy will be arraigned at a later date. Both men face up to 15 years in prison if convicted. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case through its General Crimes Section, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brachah Goykadosh and Matthew Sullivan leading the charge.
The arrests were the result of a joint operation involving the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, the FBI’s New York Field Office, the NYPD, and the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force. Authorities warn that those who illegally possess firearms and engage in violent acts will be aggressively pursued and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
