The grim reality of the heroin epidemic was brought into stark focus this week as Erick Delgado, 39, and his brother Anoris Delgado, also known as ‘Alex,’ 28, both from Bridgeport, Connecticut, pleaded guilty to heroin distribution charges in a federal court.
This pivotal development follows an intensive investigation by law enforcement agencies targeting drug dealers responsible for distributing deadly substances like heroin, fentanyl, and opioids across the state. The brothers’ arrests are the culmination of a relentless effort to dismantle drug rings that pose a threat to public safety.
Court documents and statements reveal a harrowing sequence of events. On April 25, 2016, Bridgeport Police and medical personnel were called to Washington Avenue on reports of a possible overdose. The victim was revived with Narcan before being transported to the hospital, where they identified Erick Delgado as the source of the heroin.
Tragically, another life was lost that same day when Monroe Police responded to an unresponsive 48-year-old male at his residence in Monroe. An investigation led to the revelation that the victim had purchased heroin from Erick Delgado earlier that day.
On May 3, 2016, law enforcement set up a sting operation leading to the arrest of Anoris Delgado. During this operation, undercover officers purchased 20 bags of heroin from him, further solidifying their case against both brothers.
The Delgados were arrested on June 21, 2016, with Erick Delgado being detained and Anoris Delgado released on a $50,000 bond. Both men now face up to 20 years in prison for distribution of heroin. Sentencing dates are yet to be scheduled. The investigation into the brothers’ activities is ongoing and is being conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad, along with local police departments across Connecticut.
