Broward Bank Robber Gets 52 Months
Craig Joseph Naughtin, 43, of Broward County, walked into the Wells Fargo Bank in Pompano Beach on February 3, 2015, and handed the bank teller a demand note. The teller read the note and then gave Naughtin a stack of money. After receiving the money, Naughtin fled the bank. The robbery was recorded on the bank’s video surveillance system.
In a search incident to Naughtin’s arrest, law enforcement officers found $3,561.00 on the defendant as well as the demand note, which stated ‘no this is not a joke all the money in the cash draw, no GPS, no dye packs, I’ll be on my way no problems.’
Naughtin was sentenced to 52 months imprisonment by United States District Judge Beth Bloom for robbing the Wells Fargo Bank. Following his release from prison, the defendant will be placed on supervised release for three years and is ordered to pay restitution.
U.S. Attorney Wifredo A. Ferrer commended the investigative efforts of the FBI, Broward Sheriff’s Office, and the South Florida Violent Crimes Task Force for their work on this case. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Katz.
The FBI’s Miami Field Office and the Broward Sheriff’s Office worked together to apprehend Naughtin and bring him to justice. This case is a reminder that bank robbers will be caught and held accountable for their crimes.
Naughtin’s sentence serves as a warning to others who would engage in similar criminal activity. The community is safer thanks to the hard work of law enforcement and the dedication of prosecutors like Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Katz.
