Bruce Redmond, Methamphetamine Trafficking and Gun Possession, Pennsylvania 2020

SCRANTON – In a shocking turn of events, Bruce Redmond, a 31-year-old resident of Dallas, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty to methamphetamine trafficking and the illegal possession of firearms.

According to United States Attorney David J. Freed, Redmond admitted to being an illegal user of controlled substances in possession of firearms and to the possession of methamphetamine for further distribution. The charges stem from an incident in which law enforcement authorities served search warrants at Redmond’s residence in Dallas and business office in Kingston and seized approximately 58 firearms, 6,664 rounds of ammunition and a quantity of methamphetamine.

The charges were brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. The program was reinvigorated in 2017 to target violent criminals and develop effective, locally-based strategies to reduce crime.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. O’Hara is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Kingston Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police.

The maximum penalty under federal law for the drug offenses is 20 years’ imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. The maximum penalty for the firearms offenses is 10 years’ imprisonment, a term of supervised release, and a fine.

A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines. The Judge will consider factors such as the nature, circumstances, and seriousness of the offense; the history and characteristics of the defendant; and the need to punish the defendant, protect the public, and provide for the defendant’s educational, vocational, and medical needs.

Redmond’s case is a prime example of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat methamphetamine trafficking and reduce violent crime in the community. As the investigation and prosecution of this case continue, the public can rest assured that justice will be served.

The people of Luzerne County can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to keep their communities safe. The guilty plea by Bruce Redmond is a significant step in the right direction, and it serves as a reminder that those who engage in illegal activities will be held accountable for their actions.

As this case moves forward, it will be interesting to see how the court proceedings unfold. Will Redmond receive a harsh sentence, or will he be given a lighter punishment? Only time will tell. One thing is certain, however: the people of Luzerne County will not tolerate methamphetamine trafficking and gun possession in their community.
