Bryan Lee Ogle II, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, West Virginia 2024

A Tennessee man has been sentenced to 210 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Bryan Lee Ogle II, 33, of Sevierville, Tennessee, was sentenced on February 16, 2024 by United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin.

Ogle has an extensive criminal history, with 13 felony convictions and 25 misdemeanors. This case represents his 13th felony conviction. He was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the investigation, Ogle was driving a vehicle near Montgomery on February 8, 2018 when officers with the Montgomery Police Department attempted to perform a traffic stop. Ogle fled at a high rate of speed, eventually striking a hillside and attempting to back away from officers. A physical struggle ensued, during which Ogle struck and bit the involved officers and attempted to grab one of their firearms.

After being secured in handcuffs, a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic pistol was located. Ogle admitted to possessing the firearm, knowing he had previously been convicted of several felony offenses in Tennessee.

During his arrest, Ogle attempted to escape from police and shot a Charleston Police officer with the gun he was found to be in possession of. Fortunately, the bullet was deflected by the officer’s body-worn camera.

Ogle was also convicted of attempted murder, escape, assault in the commission of a felony, and battery in Kanawha County Circuit Court and was sentenced to the maximum of six to 30 years in state prison.

The Montgomery Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Jeremy B. Wolfe handled the prosecution.

This case is being prosecuted as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, the centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts.
