SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A shocking revelation in the dark underbelly of the internet, a Sacramento man has been taken down for his heinous crimes.
Bryan Tamblyn, a 40-year-old resident of Sacramento, California, was sentenced to seven years and three months in prison for receipt of child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert. Additionally, he was ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution to a victim in the case and a $5,000 Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act assessment.
According to court records, Tamblyn committed the crime between July 2018 and August 2019. He used a BitTorrent client to knowingly receive thousands of files containing visual depictions of children engaging in sexually explicit conduct. Some of those files included children under the age of 12.
This despicable act was uncovered by the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force, the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christina McCall prosecuted the case.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute those who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
Bryan Tamblyn, the now-convicted child pornography offender, has been brought to justice, and his victims will receive the restitution they deserve. This case serves as a stark reminder of the horrors that lurk in the dark corners of the internet, and the need for continued vigilance and cooperation to protect our most vulnerable populations.
