Bryant Willingham, Carjacking, Missouri 2020

A brazen act of carjacking in St. Louis left a postal employee shaken and a suspect behind bars. On April 8, 2020, Bryant Willingham, a 40-year-old resident of St. Louis, Missouri, approached a postal employee who was delivering mail in the 5900 block of Tara Lane.

Willingham tried to open the front passenger door, but the door was locked. However, the window to the door was down. He climbed into the passenger seat through the open window.

The postal employee, fearing for his safety, began to drive away to keep Willingham from getting into the vehicle. Once Willingham got inside, he told the postal employee to keep driving. The postal employee slowed the vehicle and jumped out, while Willingham climbed into the driver’s seat and drove the postal vehicle away.

A few minutes later, Willingham crashed the postal vehicle at the intersection of Jennings Station and Lewis and Clark Roads. He fled and boarded a Metro bus. The bus driver, a short time later, flagged down a St. Louis County Police Officer who boarded the bus and arrested Willingham.

Bryant Willingham, 40, was sentenced to 60 months in prison for carjacking a postal employee in St. Louis, Missouri.

The United States Postal Inspection Service and St. Louis County Police Department investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney John Ware is handling the case.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution when working in the public sector. The sentence handed down to Willingham serves as a warning to those who would seek to take advantage of others through acts of violence and intimidation.
