ST. LOUIS – In a stunning display of lawlessness, convicted felon Cedric Cross Sr., 42, has admitted to being caught by police with a stolen gun after fleeing from a carjacked vehicle in St. Louis, Missouri.
According to court documents, Cross was the passenger in a carjacked truck that was involved in a high-speed chase before crashing. He was found armed with a stolen handgun, which was later linked to a shooting in the Walnut Park West neighborhood of St. Louis the day before the carjacking.
Cross pleaded guilty to one felony count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, a charge that carries significant prison time. He also faces additional charges for violating his supervised release from a prior felon in possession case in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Catherine Hoag is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country.
Cross’ guilty plea comes as a major blow to the St. Louis community, where gun violence and crime have been on the rise in recent years. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of carrying a firearm as a convicted felon.
Cross is scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024. He faces a significant prison sentence, which could be compounded by additional time for violating his supervised release. As the case comes to a close, the community can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that justice has been served and that those responsible for perpetuating violence will be held accountable.
The investigation and prosecution of Cross’ case are a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement agencies in St. Louis. As the city continues to grapple with the challenges of crime and violence, it is reassuring to know that there are individuals and organizations working tirelessly to keep the community safe.
Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) is a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
