Budget Finance Co. Probe Transferred to Ohio
The Budget Finance Company is at the center of a growing financial scandal after the handling of the investigation was transferred to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Columbus, Ohio.
The transfer of the case came after federal officials discovered that potential victims, including some Department of Justice employees who work or reside in the Northern District of West Virginia, were involved in the matter.
According to federal officials, the inquiry revealed that the potential victims were part of the Budget Finance Company’s predatory lending practices, which targeted vulnerable individuals.
The investigation, which was previously being handled by federal prosecutors in West Virginia, will remain the same, but the case will now be overseen by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Columbus.
As a result of the transfer, all potential victims were notified earlier this week and were encouraged to call (614) 469-5715 with any questions.
The move to transfer the case has raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest and the ability of local prosecutors to handle the case fairly.
The investigation into the Budget Finance Company is ongoing, and it is unclear at this time what charges may be filed against the company or its employees.
