Buffalo Man Charged with Cocaine Crimes

Kasan Alkafi, 39, a Buffalo resident, has been indicted on multiple cocaine charges. According to U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr., Alkafi is accused of conspiring to distribute cocaine, possessing cocaine with intent to distribute, maintaining a drug-involved premises, and distributing cocaine. If convicted, Alkafi could face up to 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine.

The indictment alleges that between July 2016 and November 3, 2017, Alkafi conspired with others to sell cocaine in the Buffalo area. During this time, he allegedly used two properties, 13 Minton Street and 592 Genesee Street, for drug trafficking purposes.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin G. Bish is handling the case, which stems from an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Erie County Sheriff’s office, and the Buffalo Police Department. The investigation was led by Special Agent-in-Charge Ray Donovan, Sheriff Timothy Howard, and Commissioner Byron Lockwood.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and Alkafi is presumed innocent until proven guilty. He was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer and released on conditions.
