Kurbin Menaugh, 36, and Robert Terry, 44, have been charged with drug-related offenses in a federal indictment unsealed earlier this week in Kansas City, Mo.
The indictment alleges that in early September 2021, Menaugh and Terry conspired to possess 50 grams or more of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. The indictment also charges Menaugh with possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.
If convicted, each defendant faces a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison. Menaugh also faces a five-year, mandatory-minimum sentence of incarceration, to run consecutive to any other sentence of incarceration, for possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking offense.
The charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
This case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney James Kirkpatrick. It was investigated by the Independence Police Department. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.

The initiative aims to make a significant impact on the war against drug trafficking and violent crime in the United States.
The indictment was unsealed following the arrest and initial appearance of Menaugh. The minimum and maximum statutory sentence is prescribed by Congress and is provided here for informational purposes. Any sentence will be determined by the court based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors following a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
