Buffalo Man Sentenced for Cocaine Sales
A 22-year-old Buffalo man has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for selling cocaine in Western New York.
Malik Matthews was convicted of conspiring to distribute cocaine and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. on Tuesday. The conviction was the result of an investigation by the Buffalo Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Byron Lockwood, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Stephen Belongia.
According to court documents, Matthews sold cocaine to an individual over 50 times between June 2018 and October 2019. He also sold crack cocaine to an undercover police officer on multiple occasions.
On June 4, 2019, Buffalo Police Officers executed a search warrant at Matthews’ residence on Grey Street, where they found three loaded firearms, ammunition, two bags of suspected crack cocaine, five digital scales, a bottle of a cutting agent, and a box of sandwich bags.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Meghan E. Leydecker and Paul C. Parisi handled the case and praised the law enforcement agencies for their work in bringing Matthews to justice.
Matthews’ sentencing is a significant blow to the city’s fight against drug trafficking, and it serves as a reminder of the dangers of selling and using illicit substances.
