Buffalo Man Sentenced for Theft and Assault at VA

A 52-year-old Buffalo man has been sentenced to five months in prison, followed by five months of community confinement in a community treatment center, for his role in a theft and assault incident at the Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center in Buffalo.

Norris King, of Buffalo, NY, was convicted of theft and assault within special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States, and was sentenced by U.S. Magistrate Judge Hugh B. Scott.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott S. Allen, Jr., who handled the case, King attempted to steal three North Face winter jackets, each valued at $179.00, from the Veteran Canteen Services on December 9, 2015. The store manager and a second VA employee pursued and detained King, and during the chase, he assaulted an elderly veteran seeking medical treatment.

The sentence is the result of an investigation by the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Criminal Investigations Division, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey Hughes, Northeast Field Office.

King’s sentencing is a significant blow to those who would seek to take advantage of the vulnerable members of our community, and we are grateful for the hard work of our investigators and prosecutors in bringing him to justice.

Norris King’s crimes have consequences, and he will now face the consequences of his actions. We hope that this sentence will serve as a deterrent to others who would consider committing similar crimes.
