Burglar Sentenced for Reservation Heist
A 20-year-old man from Lewiston, Idaho, has been sentenced to six months in prison for burglarizing a barn on the Nez Perce Indian Reservation. Stefan Hiebert, an enrolled member of the Nez Perce Tribe, pleaded guilty to the charge on February 5, 2013.
According to a plea agreement, Hiebert burglarized the barn on two separate occasions in March 2012, with the intent to steal elk and deer antlers and sheds he knew to be inside. He stole approximately 30 antlers and sheds with an estimated value of $10,000.
U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge ordered Hiebert to serve the first six months of his supervised release on home detention and pay $10,400 in restitution to the victim.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which worked tirelessly to bring the perpetrator to justice. This sentence serves as a reminder that those who engage in burglary and other serious crimes will be held accountable for their actions.
Hiebert’s sentence is a result of the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who work to protect our communities and uphold the law.
The Nez Perce Indian Reservation is a community that is working to heal and move forward from the trauma of this crime. This sentence is a step in the right direction towards justice and healing.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation will continue to work to protect the citizens of Idaho and the Nez Perce Indian Reservation from crimes like this.
