New Orleans, LA – A California woman has admitted her role in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. LORRAINE SANCHEZ VALDEZ, 31, from Covina, California, faced the music on February 9, 2023, when she pled guilty before United States District Court Judge Ivan L. R. Lemelle to charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Sanchez Valdez conspired with others to push a significant quantity of the illegal drug within the Eastern District of Louisiana and beyond between May 15, 2021, and June 7, 2021. The case is one more blow in the ongoing battle against the methamphetamine epidemic.
Sanchez Valdez now awaits her sentencing on May 17, 2023. If convicted, she could face up to twenty years in a federal prison, be hit with a $1 million fine, spend at least three years under supervised release, and fork over a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
The DEA, Louisiana State Police, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office all had a hand in this investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman, from the Narcotics Unit, is leading the prosecution.
This guilty plea marks another success for federal law enforcement in the fight against drug trafficking. It serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who engage in such dangerous activities.
