Marisela Pescador, Money Laundering, California 2017

Another grim chapter in the methamphetamine trade unfolded as Marisela Pescador, a 39-year-old from Moreno Valley, California, was handed a four-year probation sentence for her role in a sophisticated money laundering scheme tied to drug sales. The acting United States Attorney Robert C. Stuart announced the sentencing on Thursday, June 8, 2017.

Pescador admitted guilt in February 2016, revealing her involvement in siphoning proceeds from methamphetamine sales that took place in Lincoln, Nebraska. From April through September 2011, Pescador and an alleged network were said to have laundered drug money through a variety of bank accounts. These included those in her name, her children’s names, her husband’s landscaping business, and accounts associated with co-conspirators.

The laundering process was a seamless operation: meth proceeds were deposited in Nebraska banks, and Pescador, along with others, would withdraw the cash in California. The coordinated efforts of law enforcement revealed the intricate web of deceit that supported the illegal drug trade.

Monday, June 5, marked another critical milestone as Pescador’s husband and co-defendant, Sergio Valencia, Sr., was sentenced to 160 months in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and conspiracy to money launder. His sentence underscores the severity of the charges and the depth of his involvement in the criminal enterprise.

This case was a result of the diligent work of the Lincoln/Lancaster County Drug Task Force, who tirelessly investigated and pieced together the puzzle of a cross-state crime ring. Pescador’s sentence includes six months of home confinement and 16 weekends behind bars, further deterring any potential recurrence of criminal activity.
