MIAMI – The grim underbelly of Miami’s criminal world was exposed this week as Jimmy Sanchez, 36, of San Diego, Calif., and Tsvia Kol, 36, of Miami were charged with the execution-style murder of an individual at the Aladdin Hotel. The chilling incident unfolded on June 20, when the victim was lured to the hotel by Kol under the guise of retrieving a stolen methamphetamine package.
Kol orchestrated the deadly scheme, arranging for Sanchez to fly from San Diego to Miami. Their sinister plan culminated in the victim lying face down in a hotel room with two gunshot wounds to the head and face. The duo’s cold-blooded actions have earned them charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance, discharge of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense, and causing a death in the course of the drug trafficking conspiracy.
Should they be convicted at trial, Sanchez and Kol face the prospect of life imprisonment, up to life on supervised release, and fines reaching $10 million. The severity of their charges underscores the gravity of their alleged crimes.
The investigation was a collaborative effort by the DEA Miami Field Division and the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), with assistance from the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Miami, and U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS). Assistant U.S. Attorneys Yara Dodin and Monica Castro are prosecuting the case, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Mitchell Hyman handles asset forfeiture.
As per legal protocol, an indictment contains mere allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. This harrowing tale serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking within the realm of drug trafficking and the relentless efforts of law enforcement to bring such criminals to justice.
